SAN JOSE, Antique – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will investigate the Semirara Mining and Power Corp. for allegedly campaigning for a village chief candidate in Barangay Semirara, Caluya, Antique.
Comelec-Antique election supervisor Roberto Salazar on Monday said Comelec acting regional Director Tomas Valera instructed his office to look into the issue.
“We are going to conduct a fact-finding investigation as soon as we can,” stressed Salazar, who was interviewed amid yesterday’s casting of votes.
He added that the mining firm must not meddle with the conduct of elections.
It was Henry Malacad who aired the complaint through the program of news anchor Erwin Tulfo’s.
Salazar, who also serves as the municipal supervisor of San Jose, said he already sent an election officer in Barangay Semirara to meet Malacad.
“I also gave instruction to the complainant through the phone to document any violation they could notice because it is also hard without any evidence submitted,” Salazar said. (With report from PNA/PN)
