ILOILO City – Presidential sister Sen. Imee Marcos brought assistance to fire victims from two barangays of Molo district temporarily staying at Baluarte Elementary School over the weekend.

Through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Marcos led the distribution of P5,000 food assistance to each of the 300 families displaced by fire on Jan. 28 in barangays West Habog-Habog and San Juan.

Food packs and hygiene kits were also distributed to the fire victims.

The lady senator is hopeful that the government would be able to provide decent housing for the fire victims through the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) that is currently embarking “on quite an aggressive housing program.”

Sana mabigyan ng pansin… I think we have to resort to condominium style multilevel housing. At least they could finally have a home they can call their own. And that is legal, may title,” Marcos said.

She also vowed to help the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Iloilo City that sought assistance from her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., for the relocation of the affected families.

Ako ‘yung super ate so bibitbitin ko ‘yan, papadala ko kaagad and I will also make sure that the DSHUD will get a copy,” she added.

Senator Marcos believes that the housing project must also be coupled with employment and livelihood, educational facilities, community center as well as church or chapel./PN
