BACOLOD City – The Senate has approved in third and final reading a bill that seeks to make the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) a university.
Senate Bill No. (SBN) 1919 is the counterpart of House Bill No. (HBN) 7081. Both measures are aimed at giving the CHMSC a university status.
SBN 1919, which the Senate passed on Monday, was filed by Sen. Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV.
The House of Representatives, meanwhile, approved HBN 7018 in third and final reading on Jan. 14. Bacolod City lone district representative Greg Gasataya filed the house bill.
The CHMSC, formerly the Paglaum State College, is a state-run college that has three campuses.
Its main campus is in Talisay City, Negros Occidental while its two other satellite campuses are in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City and in Barangay Fortune Town, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.
It offers technological, professional and vocational education and training in science, agriculture and industrial fields as well as short-term courses.
Should the measures be passed into a law, the CHMSC will be named the “Carlos Hilado Memorial State University.”/PN
