ANTIQUE – A 71-year-old farmer sustained a wound to the side of his abdomen after he was allegedly shot by a village chief in Barangay Soligao, Barbaza town over the weekend.
The victim identified as Jimmy Española, a resident of the said place, was already in stable condition at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose de Buenavista town.
The victim’s family disclosed that Española suffers from a mental disorder.
According to the Barbaza Municipal Police Station, Española was under the influence of liquor on Saturday night, October 12
Police said the victim allegedly became violent while armed with a 12-inch bolo and attempted to attack barangay captain Ariel Santiago, 43.
Fearing for his safety, Santiago reportedly decided to neutralize the victim using a caliber .38 revolver at around 11 p.m.
Barbaza police said the family of the victim has decided not to file charges against the village chief and instead sought a peaceful settlement. They also appealed for financial assistance to cover the medical expenses, police added./PN
