BACOLOD City – Senior Superintendent William Señoron blasted Ricky Serenio for tagging law enforcers to the illegal drug trade.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office director is considering legal action against Negros Island Region’s No. 1 drug suspect.
In a supplemental affidavit, Serenio — a former member of the Berya drug group — claimed Señoron was receiving P1.2 million worth of protection money from drug lords in Negros Occidental.
Serenio also linked the police official to Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr. Señoron was connected with the slain suspected Iloilo drug lord when he was leading the Regional Intelligence Unit of the Police Regional Office 6 in Iloilo City, Serenio said.
Serenio’s claims are “all fabrications, outlandish, and nothing more than tall tales,” Señoron said, adding that he will resign and waive all his benefits if Serenio can show proof for his allegations.
According to Señoron, whatever information Serenio has must not be sent to the press or contained in affidavits but should be handed to “the intelligence community para at least ma-validate.”
Señoron is consulting the Philippine National Police’s Legal Service for possible legal action against the drug suspect. He said they want to save good police officers named in Serenio’s affidavits.
Police lose their credibility every time the issue is brought up by the press, and the officers get demoralized as a result, Señoron said.
“We should not concentrate on his (Serenio) rehashed statements,” he said. “We are suffering from trial by publicity tungod lang sa affidavit ni Serenio nga kabalo man ta nga may koter-mayor man na.”
Señoron believes someone is using Serenio as “a pawn” and “a fall guy” to destroy his and other police officers’ names.
Serenio made the disclosures after he was arrested in Talisay City, Negros Occidental in January for grave coercion.
He was released from jail on March 16 after posting bail but is now being kept in an undisclosed location for his protection, the Police Regional Office 18 said./PN
