Series tied, J. Cordon forces do-or-die

ILOILO City – J. Cordon Construction-DPWH 2nd District forced a do-or-die matchup in the finals of the Jerry P. Treñas Basketball Tournament on Monday night at the Jaro Gymnasium.

With J. Cordon’s reinforcement Landry Sanjo back in court action, the team stretched the best-of-three titular cage war to Game 3 after a 90-87 triumph over Uniwheels.

The battle was tight at the start with J. Cordon clinging to a 49-45 halftime lead. The tempo of the match continued in the second half, but the victors proved to be the steadier team down the stretch to escape with a slim win.

Uniwheels drew first blood in the championship opener of the series after a 104-93 victory over J. Cordon, as the latter played without Sanjo and Rolly Jaca.

The winner-takes-all match between the two competing team was played last night in the same venue.

The Jerry P. Treñas Basketball Tournament was part of the city’s annual Dinagyang Festival./PN
