BACOLOD City — An uncle of fraternity hazing victim Guillo Cesar Servando has lost hope in the country’s justice system.
“Only God can give us justice,” Brother Antonio Cesar Servando said of his nephew’s death. “Only God can give us the justice we want.”
Guillo Cesar, who studied at the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde, succumbed to traumatic injuries inflicted during initiation rites allegedly of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity.
“We do not believe in the justice system in this country,” stressed Brother Servando, vice chancellor for administration of the University of St. La Salle–Bacolod. “Look at the cases of other hazing victims in other big schools in Metro Manila.”
The Lasallian brother said fraternities were “not recognized in all La Salle schools, including the College of St. Benilde.”
Guillo Cesar, 18, reportedly had to endure mental and physical abuse during the initiation rites at a Makati house on Saturday night last week.
Brother Servando, elder brother of Gullio Cesar’s father, Aurelio, said the cremated remains of his nephew will stay in Manila for a few weeks.
Guillo Cesar’s remains will be interned at the Servando mausoleum in Burgos Cemetery here where the victim’s grandparents were also buried./PN
