ILOILO City – “Serve the public properly.”
This was the first instruction of the new director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in Region 6 to his staff.
MGB, an attached agency of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), has a new director in Western Visayas.
On Sept. 24, 2018, DENR secretary Roy Cimatu issued a special order reassigning Roger de Dios, previously assigned in MGB Region 13 (Caraga Administrative Region), to MGB in Western Visayas.
De Dios replaced Regional Director Leo Van Juguan who was reassigned to MGB Region 8 (Eastern Visayas).
During the turnover ceremony on Oct. 3, de Dios said he looked “forward to working with the people of MGB Regional Office 6.”
“I will never scold somebody because for me, we are all professionals. Few words are enough to let you realize when you make a mistake or you need to improve,” said de Dios of his management style.
De Dios had been working in government for over 35 years.
“I have observed that sometimes we cannot please everyone. But we should serve the public properly. The more people you will make happy, the more blessings will come in your life,” he said.
De Dios hailed from the province of Cebu. He graduated magna cum laude (Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering) at Cebu Institute of Technology.
He was the regional director of MGB-13 since 2012. He had also served as science research specialist in the same office.
“I’m happy to be here in Iloilo and I feel at home in this region because I can understand your dialect,” de Dios told his Region 6 staff.
On behalf of DENR Region 6 executive director Jim Sampulna, Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Jesse Vego welcomed de Dios to Western Visayas.
“We should accept the changes in management because this turnover will be the good for the organization. We’ll give him all the support and wish him all the best,” said Vego.
Assistant Secretary for Mining Concerns Nonita Caguioa, MGB acting assistant director Atty. Danilo Uykieng and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) regional director Sophie Manuel were also present during the turnover ceremony held at the MGB-6 regional office. (With a report from DENR-6/PN)
