‘Serve the people’

FOR DECADES “serve the people” has been the mantra of these so-called communists and activists when really all they’re saying is “serve Joma Sison”.

This term “serve the people” is their euphemism for supporting the 50-year-plus rebellion of the Communist Party of the Philippines / New People’s Army / National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP/NPA/NDFP).

What these so-called communists and activists have been doing is best explained here: “Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” (Thomas Sowell)

In the forefront of this activism are front organizations taking advantage of the party-list system in Congress, aptly called KABAG – acronym for Kabataan, Anakpawis, Bayan Muna, Alliance of Concerned Teachers, and Gabriella.

Aside from being obstructionists in Congress using government resources to undermine the government, KABAG are also in all anti-government rallies ably assisted by the “useful idiots”. But of course, all things must pass.

Because of good governance and the selfless efforts of the NTF-ELCAC in winning the hearts and minds of the people, particularly in the countryside, two of these KABAG party-list groups lost their seats in Congress in the May 9, 2022 elections. These are Bayan Muna and Anakpawis, a huge victory indeed for the people.

I’m quite sure the usual suspects after reading this column will immediately scream, “red tagging”. And speaking of that…

Red-tagging a phrase conjured by the CPP/NPA/NDFP as a catch-all defensive mechanism every time government security forces identify a person or group as a militant subversive bent on overthrowing the government through armed conflict. Simply put, it’s their version of the “victim card”.

These so-called communists are terrified of “red tagging”. The funny thing is they themselves conjured this boogeyman, and the irony is being a communist is not illegal in the Philippines. Try going to Plaza Miranda or Plaza Libertad and declare you’re a communist, nobody will arrest you. They’ll most probably think you’re some kind of looney.

And speaking of revolutions…

There is no armed struggle that will lift the masses from their wretched and miserable lives under capitalism. There is no “withering away of the state” turning the Philippines into a utopian proletariat paradise. What we have are organized armed mafia-like groups making a profitable and ego-tripping livelihood of kidnapping, extortion, coercion and armed robbery in the guise of “communist insurgents” fighting to free the motherland from the evils of capitalism.

If you believe this nonsense churned out by the CPP/NPA/NDFPA you’re just a gullible, trendy, useful idiot.

We’ve been had. Communism is dead and obsolete, and the country where it started has long abandoned it for capitalism.

Russia where the top icons of the communist movement come from, i.e. Lenin and Stalin, is now the top capitalist country in the world challenging the United States to be the No. 1.

China, the home of communist icon Mao Zedong, is the No. 1 trading partner of the “hated capitalist”, the United States of America.

So much for communism and the workers’ struggles. Wake up people. Communism is obsolete, dead and buried. Mao Zedong is just a character printed on a t-shirt for tourists.

MORE POWER’S INIVITABLE EXPANSION

And we segue to a power distribution utility that is truly serving the people. Of course, we are talking about “I Am Iloilo City’s” very own MORE Power.

It all started with Pavia Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Dan Fajardo’s concern for his constituents burdened by the high cost of electricity charged by their electric cooperative hovering around P11 to P12 per kWh as compared to MORE Power charging Iloilo City consumers P6.48 per kWh.

To put that concern into action, Pavia SB member Dan Fajardo gave a privilege speech urging their congressman to amend MORE Power’s franchise to include nearby municipalities.

And this happened…excerpts from the May 25, 2022 issue of Panay News:

The Senate approved on second reading the expansion bill of MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), Iloilo City’s sole power distributor.

Once passed into law, House Bill 10306, which seeks to amend Republic Act No. 11212 or the legislative franchise granted to MORE Power, will allow the power firm to expand its service coverage to the second and fourth districts of Iloilo province.

It does look like the expansion will indeed happen sooner than later.

MORE Power president Roel Castro, in an interview after the passage of the expansion bill on second reading, stressed that what sparked the expansion of their franchise are the consumers themselves, specifically their clamor for better service and lower rates especially that they have seen how MORE Power is doing.

“As a public utility, we cannot turn our back on this. May obligation tayo and if people are wanting to receive our service then we cannot deny that, it is within the franchise law,” said Castro

The purpose is not to take over the existing electric cooperative but to offer a choice for the consumers.

Ang intention nito is we will establish our facilities, we will bring in our services, we will try to bring in the best cost that we can offer to our consumers and let the consumers choose,” Castro emphasized.

Once HB10306 is approved in the third and final reading, it will be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte for his signature so that before his term ends it will finally be a law. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com)/PN
