ANTIQUE – Antiqueños whose houses were totally damaged by Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” would be prioritized in the distribution of shelter assistance, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

PDRRM officer Broderick Train said they are now processing the purchase of shelter materials, such as plywood and galvanized iron sheets that will be distributed to families whose houses have been totally destroyed.

“Antique governor Rhodora J. Cadiao would also like to fast-track the procurement and distribution of shelter materials so that those whose houses had been totally damaged could already return to their normal lives,” he said.

Train said the provincial board has approved the use of P8-million Quick Response Fund (QRF) to respond to the various needs of the people affected by “Paeng” during its Nov. 3 session when they placed the province under the state of calamity.

Of the P8-million QRF, P1 million was allocated for shelter materials.

“The provincial government is also looking for other sources of fund(s) to add to the P1 million QRF considering that it might not be enough for shelter materials,” Train said.

Based on the report of the Antique Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, 963 families had totally damaged houses due to “Paeng”.

There were also 5,078 families with partially damaged houses. (PNA)/PN
