KALIBO, Aklan – The Ati-Atihan fever is not yet over. Emerging filmmakers have yet to showcase their work during the 1st Ati-Atihan Sarok Short Film Festival.
Locally produced short films captured moments during the Ati-Atihan Festival from Jan. 9 to 15, film festival director Romart Martesano said.
They were “Parlorista” by Manny Garcia, “May Duty Ako” by DJ Rex Winston Rey, “Antos Anak” by Kim Janus Justo, and “Sa Ati-Atihan” by Antonio Alis Jr.
Organizers said the short films aspire to provide an alternative perspective on local culture and documentation of the “mother of all Philippine festivals” through visual storytelling.
The filmmakers had undergone workshops under CineKasimanwa festival director Elvert Bañares (“Gaid: Chain,” 2014; “Impas,” 2015) and filmmaker Marcelo Tolentino IV (“Lumay,” 2016) last year in this capital town.
Winners will be recognized during the Gintong Sarok Awards Night on Feb. 14.
All the 15-minute films will be shown to the public for free during the “Sine sa Plaza” the following day.
Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc., Mayor William Lachica, Gov. Florencio Miraflores, and Sangguniang Bayan of Kalibo members Mark Quimpo, Cynthia Dela Cruz, Buen Joy French, and Philip Kimpo support the 1st Ati-Atihan Sarok Short Film Festival.
Media production partners include Manna Machine Studio, Paranymph Media, Tuesdaywhat Filmworks, Trikee Corp., and Datu Bangkaya Productions. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
