ILOILO City – Shorter curfew hours for minors in this southern city is back.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), during Wednesday’s regular session, amended Regulation Ordinance 2011-676, or Curfew for Minors to revert to the original 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew hours for minors.
In 2020 at the height of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Curfew for Minors Ordinance, authored by Councilor Plaridel Nava, was amended to lengthen the curfew hours (8 p.m. to 4 a.m.) to “limit non-essential movement of minors”.
Councilor Leila Luntao, who sponsored the previous amendment to the ordinance, explained that the longer curfew hours was based on the request of Mayor Jerry Treñas following incidents involving minors, especially during nighttime, and also to arrest the possible spread of COVID-19.
The curfew for minors was instituted a few years back to address the surge in late-night ruckuses that usually involved minors.
The original shorter curfew hours for minors is effective immediately./PN
