BACOLOD City – Bacolod Yuhum Foundation (BYF), organizer of MassKara 2022, disclosed that if given a chance again by the city government to handle this year’s festival, it will limit the number of activities to shorten the days of the celebration.
Mate Espina, BYF spokesperson, said this aims to avoid losses.
The foundation lost about P6 million last year.
“If the Sanggunian Panlungsod gives their ‘yes’ by granting Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez authority to sign the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the foundation, we will shorten the activities,” said Espina.
The foundation eyes having MassKara Festival 2023 from Oct. 6 to Oct. 22.
For years, the celebration started on the first day of October and lasted for three weeks.
Espina also disclosed that the foundation has a new president. Katherine Matiling replaced Pinky Mirano, who recently resigned.
Espina also clarified that the MassKara Festival Facebook page that was hacked was not owned by the foundation.
The foundation’s official page is Bacolod Yuhum Foundation.
The city council’s Committee on Laws and Ordinances is set to hold today, Aug. 10, a public hearing on the mayor’s request for an authority to sign the MassKara MOA./PN
