PHILADELPHIA 76ers overcame the absence of several key players to score a 118-104 upset over Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season on Tuesday night (Wednesday in the Philippines) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Tyrese Maxey led the way with 43 points, including four three-point conversions, while Kelly Oubre Jr. added 20 markers as the 76ers improved to an 18-27 record in the standings.
Ricky Council IV tallied 16 markers, while Eric Gordon and Guerschon Yabusele contributed 14 points apiece for the 76ers, which were without veterans Joel Embiid and Paul George due to injuries.
From a 25-all score after the opening quarter, the 76ers created a separation from the Lakers behind three-point conversions from Gordon and Council for a 73-57 halftime lead.
The Lakers started strong in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 67-80, but the 76ers answered with three-pointers from Maxey, Council, and Gordon to break the game wide open.
LeBron James finished with 31 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds, Dalton Knecht added 24 markers, while Anthony Davis contributed four points before exiting with an abdominal muscle strain injury. They dropped to 26-19.
Meanwhile, Golden State Warriors secured a 114-103 triumph over Utah Jazz despite playing without veteran stars Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jonathan Kuminga.
Dennis Schröder top-scored with 23 points, including five three-point conversions, while Brandin Podzienski contributed 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists as the Warriors improved to a 23-23 record.
Andrew Wiggins added 19 points, three assists, two rebounds, and two blocks, while Moses Moody and rookie Quinten Post ended with 14 and 10 markers, respectively.
Collin Sexton finished with 30 points to lead the Jazz, while Micah Potter and Devin Eubanks added 13 markers apiece as they dropped to a 10-35 mark./PN
