SAN JOSE, Antique – Bamboo craftsmen in Barangay Villafont, Sibalom in this province have engaged themselves in making face shields, which are in high demand due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Sibalom Bamboo Crafters-Makers Association (SBCMA) president Isaias Fabillo said Tuesday they are using bamboo for the frames of the face shields and plastic acetate for the face cover.

“We are making helmet type bamboo face shields,” he added.

The bamboo cutting tools were provided to them by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its Shared Service Facility program.

“The bamboo face shields are sturdier. The user could just easily lift the full face acetate,” Fabillo said.

“We sell the face shields for P78 a piece, but the price can still go down to P60, especially if there will be bulk orders,” he added.

SBCMA can make 60 pieces of bamboo face shields per day.

“Bamboo is abundant in our barangay, so we do not have problems with the raw material,” he said.

Those who want to order the bamboo face shields may contact SBCMA via the DTI provincial office in this capital town.

The group also produces bamboo skewers, plant holders, sun driers, fish cages, hat, baskets, and winnowing baskets. (With a report from PNA/PN)
