SIBALOM, Antique – A man survived an attempt on his life on the national highway in Barangay District 3 last weekend.
Two motorcycle-riding men tried to kill the 35-year-old Brian Paul “Tongtong” Salonga around 5:45 p.m. last Sunday, a police report showed.
According to the police, Salonga – a resident of Sitio Tunnel, Barangay District 3 – was on his way home from San Jose, Antique when the gunmen attacked.
Salonga said he noticed that the men were following him, prompting him to drive his motorcycle toward the rice field.
But this did not stop the assailants; they managed to shoot at Salonga, who sustained a gunshot wound on the waist and right leg.
Salonga fell off his vehicle while the suspects fled.
After calling for help, officers of the Sibalom municipal police station rushed Salonga to the Ramon Maza District Hospital for treatment.
He was later transferred to Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose.
The police have yet to identify the suspects and the motive in the shooting.
Salonga had been arrested for illegal drugs in January 2016. He has been out of jail since December 2018 after his plea for a bargaining agreement was granted./PN
