SIBALOM, Antique – Mayor Gian Carlo Occeña confirmed that the municipality recorded a new case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Case No. 8” is a 33-year-old male and a non-health frontliner.

He was tested on Dec. 1 and the result was released on Dec. 2.

According to Occeña, the patient was asymptomatic (not showing symptoms) and was right away quarantined at the town’s isolation facility.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea.

On the other hand, the patient’s family members were put on strict quarantine, plus his close contacts.

Occeña again advised barangays to enforce public health safety protocols for everyone’s welfare such as frequent hand washing, social distancing, and use of facemasks and face shields.

People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.

These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
