Sibalom records 20 dengue cases with one death

ANTIQUE – The municipality of Sibalom has so far recorded 20 dengue cases with one death this year.

Mayor Gian Carlo Occeña issued Executive Order No. 2022-06-IV for synchronized cleanup in all barangays to deprive dengue mosquitoes of breeding places.

Dengue is caused by day-biting Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that breed in clean, stagnant water.

“To prevent the spread and occurrence of dengue and other diseases, there is a need for immediate action,” stressed Occeña.

Sibalom has 76 barangays.

Occeña urged his constituents  to particularly do the following:

* cleaning of surroundings and disposal of open receptacles

* disposal of unused bottles, cans, tires, and other containers that may hold water

* desilting drainage canals to avoid water stagnation

* do the 4 o’clock habit

According to the World Health Organization, individuals should suspect dengue when a high fever (40 degrees centigrade) is accompanied by two of the following symptoms: severe headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea / vomiting, swollen glands, muscle and joint pains, and rashes.

For severe dengue, the warning signs to look out for are: severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, bleeding gums, blood in vomit, fatigue, and restlessness./PN
