GUIMARAS — Hubon Balsahan of Sibunag town successfully defended their title, emerging once again as champions at this year’s Manggahan Festival Cultural Competition.
The event was held at the Provincial Capitol Grounds on May 19, where they walked away with a grand prize of P1.5 million.
Hubon Balsahan’s performance, a vivid representation of the bountiful agri-fishery economy of Sibunag, also swept additional awards for Best in Music, Production Design, Choreography, and Performance, with each category fetching them an additional P30,000.
The cultural showcase emphasized the role of Sibunag as one of Guimaras’ leading agri-fishery centers. It paid homage to the local farmers and fishermen, celebrating their hard work and dedication which fuel the town’s agricultural success.
The performance culminated with an evocative tribute to the Manggahan Festival, featuring the iconic sweetness of Guimaras’ mangoes, renowned globally.
Competing alongside were groups from four other municipalities, each bringing their unique flair to the competition.
Hubon San Lorenzohanon from San Lorenzo claimed the first runner-up position with a prize of P1 million, while Hubon Sadsaran of Nueva Valencia took home P500,000 as the second runner-up.
Consolation prizes of P250,000 each were awarded to Hubon Palayag of Buenavista and Hubon Bulantihan of Jordan.
Their performances spanned traditional artistry to modern interpretations, all celebrating the rich cultural heritage and artistic ingenuity of Guimaras.
