Sigma placed under state of calamity due to dengue

ROXAS City – Due to the surge in dengue cases, the municipality of Sigma in Capiz was placed under a state of calamity.

Sigma is the third municipality in the province to declare a state of calamity. Earlier, towns of President Roxas and Potevedra also made such declarations.

“We have placed the entire town under a state of calamity because we have seen a significant rise in the of number of dengue patients,” town mayor Christopher Andaya told Panay News.

Based from the lasted data of the Capiz Provincial Health Office (CPHO), dengue cases now reached 3,673 with 15 deaths Jan. 1 to July 20 this year.

“We don’t have any death recorded and we don’t want that to happen,” Andaya stressed.

In its Resolution No. 40, series of 2019, the Sangguniang Bayan took cognizance of the recommendation of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to declare the entire municipality under the state of calamity due to cases of dengue.

Sigma is comprised of 21 barangays with 69 cases of dengue of dengue from Jan. 1 to June 29.

According to CPHO, the figures are 964.1 percent higher compared to last year in the same period.
