BACOLOD City – A police officer is under investigation for allegedly firing his gun during the New Year’s Eve revelry in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Police Executive Master Sergeant Renzie Lambayog was assigned at the police station of Silay City, Negros Occidental.
According to Talisay City top cop Major Jigger Gimeno, said a complainant, who requested anonymity, accused Lambayog of firing his gun twice in Pueblo San Antonio in Talisay City’s Barangay Zone 12-A.
According to Gimeno, the complainant asked the policeman to park his car properly since it was blocking the road leading to the former’s house, sparking a heated argument between the two.
Lambayog eventually gave way and parked his vehicle. But the complainant later returned to confront Lambayog again. This supposedly angered the cop who drew his firearm and fired it in the air.
Responding officers of the Talisay City police station later arrived at the scene but did not find any fired cartridges. It was also unclear as to what type of firearm was used as there were no other witnesses except for the complainant’s wife and child.
Lambayog, for his part, denied firing a gun.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is investigating the incident, said its spokesperson, Lieutenant Abegael Donasco.
“There was no evidence yet that could prove [Lambayog] indeed fired his gun,” Donasco said.
She added that Lambayog is still reporting for duty at the Silay City Police Station. No orders were issued as to whether Lambayog must surrender his service firearm or undergo paraffin test./PN
