Silay market vendor nabbed for illegal possession of gun

NEGROS Occidental – A 52-year-old public market vendor was arrested after authorities discovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during a police search in Barangay 2, Silay City here over the weekend.

Personnel from the Silay Component City Police Station served a search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court in Silay City at around 11:43 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, leading to the arrest of alias “Marivic”, a resident of the said village.

Police recovered a caliber .38 revolver along with four live cartridges.

Brigadier General Jack Wanky, Western Visayas police director, praised the efforts of the local police force, highlighting their dedication to upholding the law.

“This operation demonstrates the commitment of our police officers in enforcing firearm regulations and ensuring public safety,” Wanky said.

The suspect is now in police custody. He will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) in relation to Commission on Elections Resolution 11067 (gun ban)./PN
