SIM registration last day today

ILOILO City – Today is the last day of the subscriber identity module (SIM) registration as per Republic Act (RA) 11934, or the SIM Registration Act.

By Wednesday, July 26, all existing unregistered SIMs will be deactivated.

The guidelines of RA 11934 clearly stated that there should be only one extension, said Atty. Deo Virgil Tan, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 6 legal officer.

If the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) decides to extend it again, the law has to be amended.

“Ang law mismo nagahambal nga one extension lang unless the law will be amended. Ang matabu sina mapreparar na ang aton nga public telecommunication entities (PTEs) or telecommunication companies for the deactivation of the unregistered SIM card,” said Tan in an interview with Panay News on Monday morning.

“Deactivated state” refers to the condition or status of a SIM that renders it incapable of being used for outgoing and incoming calls, internet access, or sending and receiving messages, except for exclusively enabling and informing such a SIM to be registered.

Tan explained that once the SIM is deactivated, PTEs such as Globe, Smart and DITO will give subscribers a five-day grace period to register.

All subscribers who want to reactivate their SIM during the five-day grace period will have to go to the branches or offices of PTEs to get assistance.

But Tan encouraged people to register today instead, saying: “Ang hassle magpa-reactivate amo naman na ang imo problemahon kon ma-deactivate ang imo number.”

Newly bought SIM cards should also be registered to avail services. Under the law, unlike before, all new SIM cards are automatically deactivated.

“Nakabutang sa laye nga all new SIM cards should be registered before being activated,” said Tan.

On Monday, July 24, Tan said the NTC regional office in Jaro district welcomed many walk-ins, particularly senior citizens who sought assistance registering.

Tan urged everyone, especially persons with disability and senior citizens, to ask for assistance from trusted family members since sensitive information is needed for the registration.

“If your SIM is still unregistered, please register sa aton nga registration platforms nga gina-provide sang PTEs kay kon indi mapa-register TELCOs will deactivate your SIMs,” Tan added.
