BACOLOD City –The city of Sipalay in Negros Occidental is not just a divers’ haven but is also now becoming a surfers’ paradise.
In a bid to further promote Sipalay’s sandy beaches, the City Tourism Office with Panaon Surfcamp and local skim boarders recently launched the first-ever “City Skim and Surf Fest.”
The three-day event kicked on July 25 to 27.
Activities during the festival include general orientation on basic skim-boarding and surfing. Skim-boarding and surfing tournaments for experts and newbies were also conducted.
On Saturday afternoon, skim and surf clinics for enthusiasts and curious viewers will also be held together with sets of exhibitions on water.
Organizers, participants and tourists will also participate in a coastal cleanup activity after the competition.
Sipalay City is dubbed “Jewel of Negros” because of its beautiful beaches, natural attractions, caves, waterfalls, coves, bays, and underwater treasures, according to Jennylind Cordero of the Provincial Tourism Office. (With a report from Sipalay City Tourism Office/PN)
