BACOLOD City – The City of Sipalay in Negros Occidental has showcased its unique diving sites during the Diving and Resort Travel Expo 2018 held in Mandaluyong City.

The expo, conducted from Sept. 7 to 9, was joined by local government units from across the country.

Sipalay City was the lone delegate from Western Visayas.

City Tourism Officer Jerick Lacson said joining the event has allowed Sipalay to promote its diving sites.

“This is part of the efforts of the city to strengthen the local diving industry,” he stressed.

Lacson added that Sipalay is the only locality in Negros Occidental included in the Dive Philippine Map.

The map is used as guide for buyers and divers who attend the annual national diving expo.

Sipalay – which has 42 diving sites – has attracted local and foreign tourists, with Europeans staying longer, said Lacson.

These diving sites have three shipwrecks, coral walls, slopes, coral gardens, and underwater caves.

Sipalay waters are also home to rays, wrasse, parrot fish, reef sharks, tuna, barracuda, and green sea turtle.

There are four diving shops in the city – the Easy Diving and Beach Resort, Takatuka Lodge and Dive Resort, Artistic Diving Beach Resort, and Bugana Dive and Beach Resort. (With a report from PNA/PN)
