ILOILO – The situation of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iloilo District Jail (IDJ) in Barangay Nanga, Pototan has improved, according to the Commission on Human Rights Region 6 (CHR-6).
CHR-6 did a “surprise inspection” at the IDJ last week, according to CHR-6 director Atty. Jonnie Dabuco.
The PDLS were eating well now and visiting families are now allowed to bring in meals.
“May maayo na sila nga kan-on nga ginakaon kag indi na batuhon pa. May ara naman sila sang sud-an nga maayo. Ginpahanugotan naman ang pagpasulod sang hilaw nga pagkaon nga halin sa pamilya sang mga inmates,” Dabuco said.
More than 100 PDLs climbed to the roof of the IDJ last month to protest against, among others, their meals./PN
