BACOLOD City – The Diocese of Bacolod has converted the Queen of Peace Church back into a chapel from a “territorial parish,” the St. John’s Institute (SJI) disclosed.

The SJI community is grateful to the diocese led by Bishop Patricio Buzon for responding to their appeal.

In a statement, the private school said making the Queen of Peace Church a “personal parish” is “in fulfillment of the wishes of the SJI community founding fathers, monsignors John Su and John Liu.”

According to the SJI, they can now “take positive steps toward healing and eventual reconciliation of all that have been affected by the feud that has sparked a division in the community.”

They agreed with Buzon that ownership is a nonissue since the titles covering the properties are in the name of the SJI, as intended by the Montelibano family and the other donors that “facilitated the strengthening of the pastoral care of the school and the entire Filipino-Chinese community.”

“The church will now go back to its original status as a school chapel and, at the same time, a church not just for the Filipino-Chinese community but for all under the auspices of the SJI and in partnership with its chosen congregation, subject to the approval of the bishop,” said the school./PN
