MANILA – Marinerong Pilipino Skippers flexed its muscles to score a 118-71 domination of Hazchem Green Warriors in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Eliud Poligrates fired nine of his 19 points
in the fourth quarter to go along with six assists, four rebounds, and four
steals to guide the Skippers to its first win of the tourney.
Jhoy Rey Alabanza unfurled 15 of his 17 points in the first half on top of six
rebounds, two assists, and two blocks on Monday night.
Roldan Sara, Jordan Rios and William McAloney added 12, 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
The Skippers easily dismantled the Green Warriors with a 26-15 start behind the early offense of Alabanza and McAloney as they tasted its largest lead at 114-62 on late hits by Poligrates.“Sabi ko nga sa kanila, maging healthy lang kami at lagi lang kaming nandyan, malaki ang chance namin this conference,” said Skippers head coach Yong Garcia as his side-grabbed the early leadership of Group A at 1-0.
Raymark Matias was the lone bright spot for the Green Warriors with his 17 points and three rebounds. They slumped to 0-2 win-loss slate.
In the first game, Black Mamba Energy Drink crawled from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter and stunned Alberei, 86-82, behind the 22 point output of Dahrell Caranguian.
Caranguian spearheaded Energy Drinks’ searing 21-0 scoring run in the fourth quarter that turned an 18-point deficit, 79-61, with 8:24 remaining in the fourth quarter to an 82-79 lead with 2:32 to play./PN
