BACOLOD City – A watch repairman at the downtown area was shot to death.
Rolando Culson, 56, was sleeping in his stall around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday on Gonzaga Street, Barangay 12 in front of Unitop General Merchandise when attacked, Police Station 1 records showed.
Culson was in the Bacolod City Police Office’s (BCPO) watch list of crime suspects, said Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, city police head.
Using a .45-caliber pistol, two unidentified persons fired at Culson three times in the head, police records showed.
Wanky said the victim was a known “handler” of “rugby boys” at the downtown area.
Culson’s death was a result of a “war” between groups involved in shady affairs, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said, citing information from the BCPO.
According to Wanky, Culson receives stolen items from thieves and sells them.
Police have yet to identify the shooting suspects as of this writing.
Culson lived in Barangay Handumanan but preferred to stay and sleep downtown; this may have made it easier for him to deal with his transactions, Leonardia said.
The mayor said he will ask the BCPO to prohibit sleeping along the sidewalks, which was recently proven to be a security risk./PN
