MANILA – Gregory Slaughter is not likely to return to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings when the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup resumes from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) break.

The Filipino-American center is reportedly trying his luck at the National Basketball Association (NBA) G-League, Ginebra head coach Tim Cone said during the Coaches Unfiltered podcast on Thursday night.

“The last we heard he’s gonna make a tryout with the NBA G-League and I don’t know if that’s true or not, we heard that from a third party that he’s gonna tryout for the G-League,” Cone said.

“He won’t be in G-League until next year because they’re not gonna have the G-League this year. G-League won’t start until probably April or May next year,” he added. “So we don’t know if he’s going to come back.”

The 32-year-old Slaughter has earlier announced in his social media accounts his desire to take a break from basketball following the expiration of his contract. Ginebra kept his rights after extending an offer.

With the impending absence of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Best Player of the Conference when the league resumes, Cone said that he is looking for a lot of guys to step up.

“We’ll make up for Greg in other ways. It’s gonna be tough because he can be a force at times and it’s just really tough having something ripped away from you like that without having being given anything in return,” Cone said./PN
