BACOLOD City – A man charged with murder tried to evade arrest in Sitio Amparo, Barangay Mabini, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Chief Inspector Rollie Pondevilla, chief of the Escalante City police, identified the man as resident Joy Victorama.
Police served Victorama with an arrest warrant around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
Executive Judge Katherine Go of the Regional Trial Court Branch 57 in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental issued the warrant.
The court did not recommend a bail bond for Victorama.
Victorama resisted arrest, though. He ran into arresting Police Officer 1 Cris Escovilla and grabbed the latter’s firearm.
They grappled over the gun, police said.
Police Officer 3 Teofisto Aburido II helped Escovilla until the gun was thrown away to the ground.
That was when Victorama stabbed Aburido on the left arm using a sharp metal object. This prompted Escovilla to shoot Victorama.
Victorama was hit on the left side of the body, police said.
Victorama was rushed to the Vicente Gustilo District Hospital in Escalante City and later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City for treatment.
Police were guarding Victorama as of this writing. It was not immediately clear if he has already gone out of the hospital./PN
