BACOLOD City – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) observed a slight increase in the prices of eggs and meat products in Negros Occidental.
The price of eggs is up by 10 centavos per piece on average, according to Place Lemana, acting PVO head.
However, Lemana pointed out that the province has enough supply of eggs, and based on the weekly provincial prevailing market prices of livestock and poultry commodities as of Aug. 8, there was also an increase in the average price of meat and poultry products.
The price of carabao meat increased by P1.38 per kilo, while beef was up by as much as P2 per kilo.
Chicken, meanwhile, had a price hike of P0.54 per kilo.
Currently, the cities of Sagay and Escalante are reported to have the most expensive carabao meat being sold in the market at P340 per kilo, while the lowest price was recorded in the town of Don Salvador Benedicto at P195 per kilo.
Pork, on the hand, is sold at high prices in San Carlos City, Silay City, and Hinigaran at P295 per kilo, and lowest in Moises Padilla, Toboso, Don Salvador Benedicto, Isabela, Kabankalan City, and Victorias City at P250 per kilo.
Lemana said the high price of feeds is still the main reason for the increase in meat prices./PN
