NUEVA VALENCIA, Guimaras – Residents in landslide-prone areas of barangays Igdarapdap and Concordia Norte here as well as motorists passing along the said section of the Guimaras Circumferential Road would be protected from possible harm once the construction of a slope protection there is completed.

District Engineer Rhodora Nuñal of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Guimaras District Engineering Office said the construction of a 433-lineal meter slope protection in the area is nearing completion.

The slope protection has a 2,850-meter high tensile wire and erosion control mat that will help stabilize the soil condition.

The project has a budget of P50.1 million.

It also includes a 353-lineal meter canal, 6.30-meter culvert pipe, 3,468-meter anchor bolt drilling and grouting, and 360-meter pre-cast concrete curb and gutter.

“This project will help protect the lives, properties and livelihood of the residents of these two barangays from possible landslides and soil collapse, especially during rainy days,” Nuñal said.

This will also provide safer road for travelers – those going to schools, business establishments and recreational areas in the town.

Nuñal said the project is expected to be completed in June this year./PN
