SM leads tree-planting activity in Anilao

Volunteers from SM groups and government agencies joined the Oct. 7 tree-planting activity.

ILOILO City – Employees of SM City Iloilo joined a simultaneous tree-planting activity in Barangay Cag-an, Anilao, Iloilo.

The Oct. 7 activity was held in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6.

Volunteers from SM groups (like SM Markets, SM Savemore, SM Store, and Jollibee), DENR, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, and the Cag-an Upland and Lowland Development Association were able to plant 12,000 fruit-bearing tree seedlings in the 24-hectare target area.

SM gave an initial budget for the growing of 12,000 fruit-bearing trees in Barangay Cag-an, Anilao, Iloilo. The tree-planting activity is part of the 60th-year celebration of SM in the country. It aims to support the environmental programs of the government and the “Grow a Million Trees” campaign of SM Foundation and SM Markets.

Tree-planting activities were also held in Luzon, Mindanao and other parts of Visayas.

A total of 60,000 trees were planted nationwide./PN
