MANILA – San Miguel Beermen recovered from a slow start to finish off Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings 100-94 in Game 5 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals last night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
June Mar Fajardo spearheaded the attack with 25 points to go along with nine rebounds while Marcio Lassiter added 23 markers, including five triples, for the three-time defending champion.

After being down by as much as 12 points in the second period, Beermen relied on inside conversions by Fajardo and outside shooting by Lassiter to force a 55-all deadlock at the half.
Beermen gained the lead 80-69 in the third canto on conversions by Lassiter and Ganuelas-Rosser. Kings rallied to within 66-70 but Beermen had a quick answer from Santos and Chris Ross for an 83-76 edge.
Kings had a strong start in the fourth on back-to-back treys by Solomon Mercado to inch closer and later take the lead 90-87 on conversions from Aguilar and Jervy Cruz.
Both teams exchanged deadlocks several times for a 92-all score. Cabagnot then drained two straight baskets to take a 98-94 lead before tightening the defense to preserve the win.
