MANILA – San Miguel Beermen center June Mar Fajardo added another trophy to his growing collection after capturing the 2019 Honda PBA Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference award.
It was the sixth PBA Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference trophy of the 6-foot-10 Fajardo and eighth overall making him the PBA player with the most conference citations.
While he is delighted with the award, Fajardo said he will be more than happy if the Beermen can complete its quest for five-straight All-Filipino conference titles against Magnolia Hotshots.
“Thankful ako na nakuha ko BPC. Sobrang blessed ko,” Fajardo said. “Credit sa management, coaches and teammates kasi ‘di ko makukuha yon kung hindi dahil sa kanila, kasi mga coaches ko and teammates ko nag-create para makuha ko ‘yung bola.”
“Gusto namin ‘yung championships,” he added. “Basta maraming championships sana, mas masaya. Alam namin na hindi ganon kadaling makuha yon. Makukuha lang namin ito pag sinunod namin game plan namin.”
Fajardo, who averaged 20.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals, was the runaway winner after garnering 1165 total points – 460 from stats, 484 from media votes, 71 player votes and 150 PBA votes.
At distant second from Fajardo is NorthPort Batang Pier’s Sean Anthony with 641 points (412-225-4), followed by TNT KaTropa’s Roger Pogoy with 522 points (373-72-2-75).
Rounding up the competitors for the PBA Philippine Cup BPC race were Batang Pier’s Stanley Pringle with 473 points (387-23-38-25) and Moala Tautuaa with 380 points (368-2-10)
The PBA Philippine Cup BPC race victory automatically made the Gilas Pilipinas center as candidate for the Most Valuable Player trophy at the end of the season./PN
