MANILA – Matthew Ganuelas-Rosser has begged off from joining San Miguel Beermen in the restart of the 2019-2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at Angeles University Foundation Gym in Clark, Pampanga on Oct. 11.

During last night’s interview with The Athlete’s Tribune, Beermen head coach Leo Austria said the Filipino-American guard-forward wrote to San Miguel Corp. management regarding his absence in the PBA cup.

“Matt is still in the United States,” Austria said. “He already wrote to the SMC management that he cannot join the team in the PBA bubble since he won’t be able to fly back to Manila in time for the league resumption.”

Replacing Ganuelas-Rosser in the Beermen’s lineup is gunner Louie Vigil, who was previously loaned to San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas in the cancelled Association of Southeast Asian Nations Basketball League.

The Beermen, gunning for its sixth consecutive All-Filipino conference championship, will be playing in the bubble without reigning five-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo, who is still recovering from knee injury.

The Beermen will be entering the PBA cup armed with a 1-0 win-loss record following a 94-78 victory over Magnolia Hotshots during the opening day of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last March 8./PN
