IN A HEARTFELT mission to spread hope and joy this holiday season, Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) brought the Christmas spirit to Semiraranhons. The highly anticipated Semirara Carnival 2024 and Christmas tree lighting ceremony signal the start of Christmas season in Semirara.

This year, the carnival features two new rides, the Frisbee and Horror Train, along with the old favorites Viking and Ferris Wheel. The carnival had its grand opening last November 23 and will run until January 2025.

A community outreach event for the residents of Sitio Villaresis, Sitio Lower Bolo, and Barangay Alegria was also held at the SMPC Gymnasium. A lively clown performance and exciting games filled the event, spreading joy and laughter to all attendees. SMPC and Semirara Multipurpose Cooperative (SEMCO) also distributed food packs, offered free island transport, and gave free rides to 150 indigent children.

Masayang masaya po ako sa dahil sa clown, at sa pagkain. Nag-enjoy din po kami sa rides, lahat po ay nasakyan ko kaya masayang masaya po ako (I am very happy because of the clown and the food. We also enjoyed the rides, I was able to experience every ride, so I am happy)”, said 10-year-old Jefferson Jovenal Jr., from Sitio Lower Bolo.

Another culmination was the much-awaited annual lighting of the SMPC Christmas Tree led by SMPC VP for Operations and Resident Manager Ruben Lozada and Administrative Division head Creslito Bangalao. Also present were Caluya’s Vice Mayor Belfe Duran, Barangay Semirara chairwoman Catherine Lim and Sangguniang Bayan members.

“By continuing this program, we hope to create wonderful memories for families during the holiday season in Semirara”, Bangalao said./PN
