ILOILO City — A civilian bodyguard of Cong. Jerry Treñas and a city hall employee were arrested yesterday.
The bodyguard Ruel Patnubay, 38, of Brgy. East Baluarte, Molo district, was collared for possession of unlicensed firearm, a .9mm-caliber pistol.
His friend and city hall employee Raymund Borda, 41, of Brgy. Compania, Molo, was facing charges for physical injuries.
He allegedly mauled Greg Militar, a brother of Senior Insp. Kenneth Militar of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group.
Both were detained in the lockup cell of the Iloilo City Police Station 1.
The alleged mauling happened at about 3 a.m. in Brgy. Kahirupan, City Proper.
Militar, who lives in Brgy. Kahirupan, was walking on the road when Borda suddenly appeared and hit his head with a gun.
Upon seeing the incident, Patnubay got the firearm from Borda.
Policemen arrived at the crime scene and saw Patnubay holding a .9mm-caliber pistol.
Chief Insp. Alexander Rosales, Police Station 1 chief, said that while Patnubay claimed that Borda owned the gun, “we arrested him because we got [the gun] from his possession.”
Residents who were at the crime scene claimed that Patnubay participated in the mauling. But Patnubay denied it.
Militar sustained head injuries. He vowed to file charges against Patnubay and Borda.
Treñas cannot be reached for comment as of press time./PN
