MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels loads up for its title retention bid in the 2020 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference with three key acquisitions on New Year’s Day.

Spikers Gretchel Soltones and Jerrili Malabanan and setter Ivy Perez have signed up with the Angels following the end of their contracts with their Philippine Superliga teams on Dec. 31.

Soltones, a three-time NCAA MVP, is expected to be the cornerstone of the Angels’ offense along with Malabanan who were her teammate at the PLDT Power Hitters in PSL last year.

“Soltones and Malabanan give us prime options at key positions we thought we need improvement come the All-Filipino Conference,” an Angel team official said. “Grethcel has the pedigree to bring us to the next level.”

The 5-foot-9 Perez, on the other hand, is also an upgrade for the Angels’ playmaking position with the expected departure of Djanel Cheng, who reportedly is moving to a PSL team.

Sa Reinforced, we needed a setter who can block and has experience playing with imports and we think Perez is a good fit,” the Angels team official said on Perez, who played for Foton Tornadoes in PSL last year.

The Angels were the defending champions in the Reinforced Conference last year behind imports Janisa Johnson and Wilma Salas. They placed runner up in the All Filipino Conference./PN
