ILOILO City – No less than Mayor Jerry P. Treñas disclosed that some job hires of the city government tested positive for illegal drug use.

However, he gave no specific number.

The Office of the City Administrator is still collating the test results of the drug tests of all city hall job hires.

“Proper action will be taken,” Treñas said.

Those who flunk the test won’t be rehired.

Also, their names will be submitted to the Philippine National Police.

Treñas required job hire and casual employees to take drug tests every quarter to ensure there are no drug users city government employees.

On the other hand, regular employees will be subjected to random drug testing.

Treñas said the city government will procure drug test kits so it will be the city government-run Uswag Laboratory that will do the drug tests.

Those found positive for drug use will be dismissed from the service.

“Indi kita ka allow nga may mga drug users diri. Ipabal-on ta ang police kag ipa-undergo sila rehab sa barangay nila,” said Treñas.

A former city hall job hire was arrested in a buy-bust operation on Aug. 24 in Pavia, Iloilo.

The job contract of the suspect identified as Jerome Dequiña of Barangay Buntatala, Jaro was terminated in July for failing to pass the drug test./PN
