THE ART exhibit called Hublag 2022 opened at Museo de Iloilo on March 29. It was made up mostly of art works by local Ilonggo artists and the guest of honor that cut the opening ribbon was – lo and behold – Lisa Araneta Marcos, wife of presidential wannabe Bongbong Marcos. It was rather expected as Gina Sarabia Espinosa, a very influential trustee of the foundation that runs the Museo, happens to be the wife of former Iloilo City mayor and now congressman wannabe Jose Espinosa III who also happens to belong to the same party that supports the presidential run of Bongbong Marcos.
Anyway, art is supposed to be without borders and political color unless it is specifically political art, and for all intents and purpose Hublag 2022 is anything but politics. From what I gathered it was organized and set up to give local Ilonggo artists a venue to exhibit their works of art and along the way earn some rent money selling these art works.
Yes, the term “starving artists” is a reality, particularly in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Along that line, “buy art from the living artists, the dead ones don’t need the money…”
It all went well at first. Nobody was talking about politics and nobody seemed to mind what was the color of their outfits, be it red, pink, green or tie-dyed multi-colors – until Mrs. Liza Araneta Marcos took a fancy on a particular art work by Madhu Liebscher and decided to purchase it.
If I’m not mistaken that was the only art work purchased by Mrs. Liza Araneta Marcos that day, much to the disdain and disappointment of some of the so-called senior artists (whatever that means) and that’s when the “shit hit the fan”.
A couple of these self-proclaimed “senior artists” (I’m not aware of any authority that grants “senior artist” titles) were very shrill in proclaiming their contempt to the point of giving political color to the presence and purchase of Mrs. Liza Araneta Marcos.
They even compared her to Imelda Marcos, saying that if she wanted to show off she should buy the whole exhibit. Really, “senior artists”? Perhaps Mrs. Liza Araneta Marcos was not interested in your so-called art works; they are not to her particular taste. And who knows? Maybe she found them boring or ordinary.
At the end of the day it was just your usual sourgraping using “politics” to appear chic, You’d probably be singing a different tune if it was your “art work” she purchased or a certain barefoot woman clad in pink was the “guest of honor”.
And we segue to the other stuff:
Manny Pacquiao says he’s waiting for a sign from God to quit the presidential race. I suppose God has his mobile number or email. Maybe it will come as a “burning bush” or a parting of the Pasig River. Maybe, just maybe, an angel will appear to him in a dream.
Now it can be told why Manny Pacquiao is running for President. According to his campaign manager Buddy Zamora, “God assigned it to him”.
The padres and madre de cacao are supporting the wrong candidate. They should support Manny Pacquiao because of all the presidential wannabes he’s the only one who claims to have a direct connection with God.
The hypocrisy in the Catholic Church, particularly in the Philippines, stems from the fact that the padre and madre de cacao are not allowed to marry. All that suppressed libido is really not very healthy.
Meanwhile, you cannot change your sex and no amount of politically correct nonsense or surgical mutilation can do that because whatever sex you were born as is in every cell, chromosome and gene in your body despite the surgical mutilations, you cannot perform the basic physiological functions i.e. menstruate, ovulate and get pregnant.
Here’s something to ponder about; since the start of the pandemic the news has been about the casualties/ death of millions of men and women, elderly and children who succumbed to COVID-19. Is it just me but did you notice in all the statistics, only men and women or male and female were infected by the virus, and not a single case of the LGBTQ reported? Are we missing something here? Are the LGBTQ immune or in the real world there are only two sexes/genders?
Moving on, there’s nothing heroic or noble about the late Jessie Robredo’s penchant for wearing tsinelas. According to a very reliable source, when he was DILG Secretary he always took off his shoes every chance he got. You see the man was suffering from a severe case of ingrown toenails. He wasn’t trying to be heroic, just comfortable. So when Leni Robredo promotes the tsinelas, she’s actually honoring her late husband’s ingrown nails.
And speaking of heroes, there was a picture of a statue that went viral in social media; it appeared to be taking a piss with a comment “mga bastos”. I totally agree even if it’s just a statue. Urinating in public is certainly bastos./PN
