BACOLOD City – Eight out of 15 members of the city council would still make quorum.
This means that the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) can still hold its regular sessions while some of its members are on official travel abroad, said Councilor Caesar Distrito.
Distrito, chairman of the SP committee on laws, ordinances and good government, said this before he, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and councilors Em Ang, Renecito Novero, Bartolome Orola, Cindy Rojas, and Dindo Ramos left on July 19 for a 16-day trip to Long Beach City, California.
They will attend the Californian city’s version of the MassKara Festival.
Under the Local Government Code of 1991, quorum must be reached before the SP can transact official business.
All of the remaining SP members must not be absent so that sessions can still be held, Distrito stressed.
The remaining SP members in the city are councilors Ricardo Tan, Sonya Verdeflor, Elmer Sy, Jesus Claudio Puentevella, Wilson Gamboa Jr., and Ana Marie Palermo, outgoing Liga ng mga Barangay president Noli Villarosa and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Ayesha Joy Villaflor.
With Familiaran’s absence, Tan now acts as the vice mayor of the city./PN
