SP convenes Bacolod diocese over trade fair request

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on laws called for a public hearing this week in relation to the request of the Diocese of Bacolod to conduct a trade fair at a portion of the city public plaza.

Councilor Dindo Ramos, committee chair, said he would invite representatives from the diocese, City Legal Office, Emergency Operations Center, among others.

He said members of the council referred to his committee the request of the diocese.

In a letter to the SP, Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon said they are planning to use the portion of the church’s property at the public plaza for the Summer Trade Fair, scheduled on March 27 to May 30.

“This portion covers the sidewalk on Gatuslao Street across Merzci Bread and Pastries and the length of the sidewalk along Rizal Street, fronting La Consolacion College, all the way to the Queen City Development Bank,” part of the request read.

Buzon said the fund that would be generated from the activity will be used for the hospitalization, medicines, food and allowances of retired, sickly and elderly priests residing in St. John Marie Vianney Church in Silay City.

Buzon endorsed Nino Cuerpo, the requesting tenant for the Summer Trade Fair.

Cuerpo assured the Diocese of Bacolod that his exhibitors will strictly comply with the health protocols imposed by the city./PN
