ILOILO City – To enhance security, the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution on Wednesday, Nov. 22, mandating the installation of closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) in all 180 barangays throughout the city.
The call aligns with the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Memorandum Circular 2022-060, which stipulates the installation of a minimum of four CCTVs in each barangay.
However, the extent of CCTV installations would vary depending on each barangay’s discretion, clarified Councilor Ma. Irene Ong, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay.
The resolution requires barangays to allocate funds for the procurement of these CCTV cameras.
Ong referenced a previously passed ordinance that mandated business establishments within the city to install an additional CCTV cameras. This new resolution builds upon the city’s ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance and safety measures across Iloilo City./PN
