The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of the Antique Provincial Government approved a resolution requesting the Antique Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to place the province under a higher quarantine status.
The request to move from Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) to the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) was passed by SP on Thursday, April 15.
According to them, the resolution will help limit people’s movement and control the spread of the virus. Records by the Antique Provincial Health Office recorded 690 total COVID-19 cases as of Thursday, April 15.
Of the 690 cases, 491 were classified still active, 177 recovered, and 22 deaths.
PAGBUTANG SA ANTIQUE SA MECQ DAPAT MAY FACTUAL AND SCIENTIFIC BASES – GOV CADIAO
Governor Rhodora Cadiao said that the SP should pass the resolution based on factual scientific bases and not just by the immediate reaction. Cadiao added that she will meet Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) members and provincial leaders this Saturday, April 17, to discuss the resolution.
“I hope the SP members before they initiate should have factual and scientific bases and hindi lang reaction dahil sa nangyayari. We should understand that it is happening all over the Philippines,” Cadiao said in an interview with Panay News.
Cadiao, in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH)-6 regional epidemiologist Dr. Jessie Glen Alonsabe, explained that fewer cases were recorded within the past two days.
“According to our epidemiologist it has already plateaued anyway and we have already received all the swab result that we have done for the past two weeks. So, yong nakikita mo umakyat kasi dumating na result ng laboratory.” Cadiao reminded the SP that the IATF-6 denied the request of the provincial government to impose border restrictions since it cannot do so in areas with the same classification status.
All provinces and highly urbanized cities in the region have already been placed under the MGCQ. Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III explained that border restrictions only apply to areas under MECQ./PN
