BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has requested the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to rehabilitate road markings and repaint pedestrian lanes in this city to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The BTAO is the department  mandated by law to implement traffic laws and ordinances of the city.

Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella said the SP passed a resolution requesting BTAO of the rehabilitation after learning that some road markings and pedestrian lanes are in need of repair and repainting due to wear and tear.

Section 15 of Article II of the 1987 Philippine Constitution provides that the state shall protect and promote the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them, the councilor cited.

He added that Republic Act No. 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, provides that the local government units shall exercise the powers expressly granted, those necessarily implied therefrom, as well as powers necessary, appropriate, or incidental for its efficient and effective governance, and those which are essential to the promotion of the general welfare.

On the other hand, effective today, August 12, all BTAO-confiscated driver’s licenses may be claimed on weekdays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the City Legal Office (CLO) in Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), as well as payment on traffic violations at the City Treasurer’s Office.

City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr., concurrent BTAO head, said for the purpose of accessibility to the drivers, who will be paying for the violations and claiming their licenses, the transactions will be all in the BCGC./PN
