SAN JOSE, Antique – Rep. Monsour Del Rosario (Makati, 1st District) stressed the importance of sports education in human development during the opening program of the ongoing National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Olympics in this capital town.

Del Rosario – a taekwondo champion – delivered a keynote speech before athletes, coaches and sports officials at the Binirayan Sports Complex on Feb. 18.

The national sports event will end on Feb. 23.

Aside from education learned at home and in formal schooling, Del Rosario said sports education teaches one to handle victory and defeat.

He did this as he shared his experiences as an athlete.

“Not every day you will win or every day you will lose. You need to build your strength and fight for your dreams,” Del Rosario said.

Del Rosario also underscored “essential elements” to succeed: desire, discipline and determination.

According to the congressman, athletes must turn their “fear into fire” during their games.

Del Rosario led the lighting of the sports event’s “friendship flames” along with the top officials of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges.

Commissioner Dino Badilla of the National Youth Commission also graced the opening program. (With a report from Pilar Mabaquiao/PIA/PN)
