BEYOND the twinkling lights, festive carols, and wrapped presents, the holiday season is about giving back, sharing blessings, and fostering a sense of community. For Panay News, the No. 1 Regional Newspaper, and the Daniel G. Fajardo Foundation, Inc. (DGFFI), this spirit comes alive each year in their much-anticipated annual gift-giving event.
This year, the heartwarming celebration reached over 600 children from the Child Development Centers of 10 barangays in Pavia, Iloilo. From barangays Amparo, Balabag, Cabugao Norte, Mali-ao, Pagsanga-an, Pal-agon, Pandac, Tigum, Ungka I, and Ungka II, the joyful cheers of children filled Robinsons Place Pavia, as the venue transformed into a hub of holiday magic.
A Celebration of Giving
Leading the charge were Panay News Board of Director and Pavia Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member, Daniel “Dan” Fajardo II, alongside his better-half, Leah Lyn Fajardo, the paper’s marketing manager. Together with the Panay News team, they distributed gift packs brimming with holiday treats, leaving smiles and laughter in their wake.
“I sincerely thank all the Day Care Teachers who organized and worked hard to bring their students here,” SB Dan Fajardo said, acknowledging the efforts of the educators.
Adding a familial touch, his children, Eli and Esbee, joined in the festivities, sharing gifts and happiness with their peers.
A Stage for Talent and Camaraderie
But the event was more than just giving gifts — it was also a celebration of children’s talents. The “Day Care Got Talent” contest showcased the creativity and skills of children from all 10 barangays.
Barangay Amparo took home the championship honors, while barangays Balabag and Tigum claimed second and third places, respectively. All winners received cash prizes and additional gift packs, further amplifying the festive spirit.
Heartfelt Gratitude from the Community
The impact of the event extended far beyond the presents and performances. Parents, teachers, and community leaders expressed their deep appreciation for the effort and generosity shown by Panay News and DGFFI.
Pamela Ledesma, a Child Development Worker from Barangay Balabag, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “This activity has helped with the children’s socialization, and at the same time, the gifts brought joy to them. On behalf of the parents and learners, we are truly thankful.”
Meanwhile, Jelly Ramos, a mother from Barangay Pandac, shared how the event created lasting memories for her four-year-old child: “My child was so happy with the surprises prepared by Panay News and DGFFI. From the magician’s performance to the contest, it was a day to remember.”
Sheryl Miado, from Barangay Mali-ao, praised the Fajardo family for their consistent support, saying, “We are always honored to be part of this annual event. It truly uplifts our community.”
Spreading the Spirit of Joy
For Panay News and DGFFI, this annual tradition goes beyond being a charitable event; it is a commitment to bringing joy and unity to the communities they serve. Each gift, performance, and smile reflects the true essence of the holidays: sharing, caring, and celebrating together.
As Rhona Guamen, a mother from Barangay Amparo, eloquently put it, “We are so grateful for the gifts, big or small. They bring so much joy to my child, and I am thankful for this wonderful gesture.”
Indeed, the best gifts of the season are love, kindness, and the joy of giving back. For the children of Pavia, this event was a moment to feel valued, supported, and part of a greater community.
As the day came to a close, the echoes of laughter and applause lingered, a reminder of the impact a simple gesture can have.
