MANILA – While current market conditions do not warrant the imposition of a suggested retail price (SRP) on cement, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Monday said it will look into the possibility of imposing one should prices spike.
In an interview on the sidelines of a press conference in Manila City, Trade secretary Ramon Lopez said the DTI is now looking into reports that cement prices have spiked from the average of P220 per bag.
“‘Pag nakakita ka na ng P240 [per bag], we will study to impose an SRP. Sa ngayon, no need,” he said.
Lopez last month hinted on the possibility of imposing an SRP on cement, but this did not come to fruition.
Lopez was reported last month to have said that should there be an SRP on cement, this would apply on a per-brand basis. (GMA News)
